Datawrapper vs Mekko Graphics Comparison: Everything You Need to Know Before Choosing

Mekko Graphics is a charting and data visualisation software package, now part of insightsoftware, that helps business professionals create sophisticated charts within Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel. It is particularly well known for Marimekko charts, which show two dimensions of data such as market size and market share in a single graphic, and which are widely used by strategy consultants, market researchers and corporate planning teams. Standard Office charting tools struggle with these more advanced chart types, forcing analysts to spend considerable time on manual workarounds or to rely on specialist designers. Mekko Graphics addresses this by providing a dedicated add-in with a broad range of business chart types and formatting options, allowing users to produce clear, presentation-ready visuals directly within the applications they already use to build decks and models. Key features include more than thirty chart types, including Marimekko, bar-mekko, waterfall, cascade, Gantt, bubble, bar-with-growth and cumulative charts, alongside tools for adding annotations such as growth arrows, difference indicators, totals and CAGR labels. Charts can be linked to Excel data so that updates flow through automatically, reducing the risk of inconsistencies between analysis and presentations. Formatting controls help teams maintain consistent styling across large presentations, and templates can be shared to support brand standards. The software is installed as an add-in for Microsoft Office on Windows and is typically licensed per user. Its target users include management consultants, investment bankers, market researchers, strategy and marketing teams, financial analysts and educators who regularly communicate complex quantitative insights. Organisations in consulting, finance, technology, pharmaceuticals and consumer goods are common adopters, particularly where high-quality visual storytelling is expected by senior stakeholders. Pricing starts from around USD 399, likely on an annual per-user basis, with a free trial; there is no permanently free version.
