Descartes Aljex vs TMW.Suite Comparison: Everything You Need to Know Before Choosing

Descartes Aljex is a cloud-based transportation management system designed specifically for freight brokers, third-party logistics providers and asset-based carriers with brokerage divisions. Now part of Descartes Systems Group’s logistics technology portfolio, Aljex has a long track record in the North American brokerage market and is known for combining operational, customer-facing and accounting functions in a single application. The problem it addresses is the complexity of running a brokerage at scale: sales teams need to quote and win freight, operations teams must source carriers and manage loads through to delivery, and back-office staff need accurate invoicing, carrier settlement and financial reporting. Aljex brings these activities onto one platform so that information captured once flows through the full order-to-cash cycle, reducing re-keying and improving the quality of interactions with both customers and carriers. The system covers quoting, order entry, load planning and dispatch, carrier selection, rate confirmations, tracking and document management, with customer and carrier portals that allow shippers to view shipment status and carriers to submit paperwork online. Built-in accounting functions handle invoicing, carrier payables, commissions and integration with general ledger packages such as QuickBooks. Aljex connects to load boards, carrier compliance and monitoring services, mileage and rating engines, and Descartes’ wider visibility and routing tools, including MacroPoint for real-time freight tracking. Reporting and business intelligence features give managers insight into margins, customer profitability, carrier performance and sales productivity. As a hosted, subscription-based solution, it avoids on-premise infrastructure and can be rolled out to distributed teams. Descartes Aljex is typically used by small to mid-sized brokerages and 3PLs that have outgrown spreadsheets or entry-level tools and need a more comprehensive, integrated platform. Its long presence in the brokerage market means the system reflects many of the practical workflows brokers already follow. Pricing starts from around USD 499; neither a free trial nor a free version is offered.
