Logilab ELN vs Arxspan Notebook Comparison: Everything You Need to Know Before Choosing

Logilab ELN is an electronic laboratory notebook developed by Agaram Technologies, an Indian company specialising in laboratory informatics software, including laboratory information management systems and scientific data management solutions. The product is designed to help laboratories move away from paper notebooks and become paperless, capturing experiments, observations and results in a secure digital environment. It addresses the limitations of paper-based record-keeping in research and quality laboratories, where handwritten notebooks can be illegible, difficult to search, vulnerable to loss and challenging to review for compliance. Logilab ELN approaches this by providing structured and unstructured digital templates, electronic signatures and audit trails, allowing scientists to document work efficiently while meeting regulatory expectations such as those set out in 21 CFR Part 11 and good laboratory practice principles. Key features include configurable notebook templates for different experiment types, allowing laboratories to standardise documentation while retaining flexibility for free-form notes. Scientists can capture data directly from instruments, attach files, images and spreadsheets, and link records to samples, materials and methods. Workflow capabilities route entries for review and approval, and electronic signatures and version control support data integrity. Search functions allow users to find previous experiments quickly, supporting knowledge reuse and collaboration across teams. Inventory and resource management features help track reagents, consumables and equipment. The system integrates with Agaram's other laboratory informatics products, including its LIMS and scientific data management systems, and with laboratory instruments, which helps reduce manual transcription errors. Deployment options include cloud and on-premises installation, allowing laboratories to choose based on their IT policies. Logilab ELN is aimed at research and development laboratories, analytical and quality control laboratories, contract research organisations and academic institutions in industries such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, chemicals, food and environmental testing. Pricing starts from around USD 30 with a free trial, and a free version is also available.
