General Information
Overview
MailCleaner is professional anti-spam and email threat protection deployed as a mail server gateway, serving internet service providers, small and medium businesses, larger enterprises and industrial organisations. It operates as a filtering layer positioned in front of the destination mail server: inbound messages are routed to MailCleaner first, analysed, and only legitimate mail is passed on. That architecture has a practical advantage over filtering performed inside the mailbox, since spam, malware and phishing never reach the mail server at all, reducing its load and removing the risk of a user encountering a malicious message that a mailbox filter merely moved to a junk folder. Filtering combines multiple techniques rather than relying on one: reputation and blocklist checks on sending addresses and servers, content analysis, Bayesian statistical filtering trained on the organisation's own mail patterns, signature matching against known campaigns, antivirus scanning of attachments, and detection of phishing characteristics and spoofed sender identities. Combining methods keeps false positives low, which is the metric that determines whether users trust a filter or start asking for it to be turned off. A quarantine holds suspect messages, and users receive periodic summaries allowing them to release anything wrongly held without contacting IT — a feature that removes a substantial helpdesk burden. Administrators configure policy globally, per domain or per user, which matters for service providers and multi-tenant deployments where different customers require different aggressiveness. Outbound filtering prevents a compromised internal account from being used to send spam, protecting the organisation's sending reputation. The product is available as a virtual appliance for on-premises deployment or as a hosted service, and the on-premises option appeals to organisations with data residency requirements or a preference for keeping mail flow entirely under their own control. Statistics and reporting cover volumes, categories and trends. A free version and free trial are available, with paid licensing from around USD 130.
