Aiven for Apache Kafka
Aiven for Apache Kafka is a scalable, fully-managed event streaming system hosted on all major clouds.
What is Aiven for Apache Kafka?
Aiven for Apache Kafka is a fully managed event streaming service from Aiven, the Finnish open-source data platform company. Apache Kafka has become the standard technology for real-time data pipelines, event-driven architectures and streaming analytics, but running it in production requires considerable expertise: clusters must be provisioned, secured, monitored, patched and scaled, and failures can disrupt critical systems. Aiven addresses this by operating Kafka on behalf of customers across the major public clouds, handling infrastructure, upgrades and availability so that engineering teams can focus on building applications rather than maintaining brokers. Its core approach is to provide open-source Kafka without proprietary lock-in, with consistent tooling and the freedom to choose the cloud provider and region that best suit each workload, including options for bring-your-own-cloud deployments in customers’ own accounts. This helps organisations adopt event streaming quickly without building in-house expertise in cluster operations.
The service can be deployed on AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, DigitalOcean and UpCloud, in many regions, and plans can be scaled or migrated between clouds with minimal downtime. Supporting components include Kafka Connect with a large set of managed source and sink connectors, MirrorMaker 2 for cross-cluster replication, Karapace for schema registry and REST proxy functionality, and tiered storage to retain data cost-effectively. Security features include encryption in transit and at rest, access control lists, private networking, single sign-on and compliance certifications such as ISO 27001 and SOC 2. Metrics and logs can be integrated with observability tools, and infrastructure can be managed via the web console, CLI, API and Terraform provider. Aiven’s wider platform offers related managed services such as PostgreSQL, OpenSearch and ClickHouse. Customers range from start-ups to large enterprises in technology, finance, retail and media. Pricing starts from around USD 200 with a free trial; there is no permanently free version of this service indicated.
