Inspectlet vs VWO Insights Comparison: Everything You Need to Know Before Choosing

Inspectlet is a website analytics tool that records visitor sessions and analyses user behaviour to reveal how people actually use a site. It was one of the early providers of session recording technology and remains popular with businesses seeking a straightforward way to see their website through their visitors’ eyes. The problem Inspectlet addresses is that standard analytics tools report metrics such as traffic and conversion rates without showing why visitors behave as they do. By capturing mouse movements, clicks, scrolling and keystrokes, the tool allows teams to replay individual sessions and observe confusion, hesitation and errors directly. Its approach combines these recordings with aggregate visualisations and testing tools, helping marketers, designers and developers form evidence-based hypotheses about improvements and then verify whether changes have the intended effect. Key features include session recording with extensive filtering and tagging, eye-tracking-style and click heatmaps, scroll heatmaps that show how far users read, and conversion funnel analysis that identifies where visitors drop out. Form analytics measure completion rates and field-level friction, while error logging helps developers see JavaScript errors in the context of the user session. Inspectlet also offers A/B testing functionality, allowing teams to experiment with different page versions and measure results. Recordings can be filtered by attributes such as referrer, location, device, landing page and custom tags, making it easier to find relevant sessions. Implementation involves adding a JavaScript snippet to the website, and privacy controls allow sensitive information to be excluded from recordings. The service is hosted in the cloud and accessible through a web dashboard. Inspectlet is used by e-commerce businesses, SaaS providers, digital agencies, publishers and product teams in organisations of different sizes, particularly those prioritising usability improvements and conversion optimisation. Pricing starts from around USD 39 per month with a free trial; there is no permanently free version listed here.
