Microsoft SharePoint is a content management and collaboration platform that forms a core part of Microsoft 365. Communication sites and SharePoint news support intranet publishing, and Viva Connections extends intranet experiences into Teams. Enterprise search across Microsoft 365 surfaces relevant content, while Microsoft 365 Copilot and SharePoint Agents apply generative AI to summarise documents and answer questions grounded in organisational content. SharePoint Premium, formerly Syntex, adds AI-driven document processing, content assembly and advanced management. Security and compliance capabilities include sensitivity labels, data loss prevention, eDiscovery, audit logging and conditional access through Microsoft Purview and Entra ID. SharePoint is available online as part of Microsoft 365 or as SharePoint Server Subscription Edition for on-premises deployment. It serves organisations of all sizes across virtually every industry, from small businesses to global enterprises and public sector bodies. Note that features such as real-time messaging and meetings are delivered through Microsoft Teams rather than SharePoint itself.
