OpenText Knowledge Discovery, long known in the market as IDOL, is an enterprise-grade analytics and search platform that indexes, searches and compares data patterns across websites, files and enterprise systems regardless of format. Its defining characteristic is breadth of content handling. A large organisation's information is scattered across file shares, email archives, document management systems, databases, collaboration platforms, intranets, audio and video recordings and scanned paper, in several hundred distinct file formats and multiple languages. Most search tools index a subset and ignore the rest. IDOL is built to ingest essentially all of it, extract meaning, and make it searchable and analysable through one interface. The platform performs conceptual rather than purely keyword search, understanding that a query about a topic should return documents discussing the same concept in different words, and it supports automatic classification, clustering, taxonomy generation, entity extraction, sentiment analysis and summarisation. Rich media is handled directly: speech-to-text transcription of audio and video, optical character recognition of scanned documents, and image and face recognition bring content that is normally invisible to search into scope. Pattern comparison and similarity detection identify near-duplicate and related material across repositories, which underpins several of its most common applications. Those applications include eDiscovery and litigation support, where defensible search across vast document populations is a legal requirement; regulatory compliance and information governance, including identifying personal data for privacy obligations; fraud and risk investigation; enterprise knowledge management; and intelligence and security analysis. Hundreds of connectors link the platform to source systems, and APIs allow its analytics to be embedded in other applications rather than accessed only through its own interface. Deployment options span on-premises, cloud and hybrid, which matters where indexed content cannot leave a jurisdiction. It is an enterprise platform serving large corporations, law firms and government bodies. Pricing is quote-based and not published in this listing.
